ABOUT SUSAN:
Susan Dimasi is an award-winning fashion designer and the Creative Director of luxury fashion house MATERIALBYPRODUCT. Her brand combines both fashion and art using traditional tailoring and couture techniques with high-quality materials. Susan works with clients to help them express their personality through their style.
WE SAY:
Susan launched MATERIALBYPRODUCT in 2003 and won the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards in 2006. The brand’s work has been shown at fashion weeks in Melbourne, Sydney, Paris, Milan and Barcelona and exhibited both overseas and at the National Gallery of Victoria, Object Gallery and Craft Victoria.
Dimasi’s work is informed by her long apprenticeship in men’s tailoring; consequently, signature stitching and constructed tailoring details are continuing themes in her work alongside couture techniques.
MATERIAL BYPRODUCT has collaborated with avant-garde artists including a commission for Bjork.
Susan has a wealth of experience in both the fashion industry and as a teacher, having worked for many years as a lecturer in fashion at RMIT. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills to inspire the next generation of makers.
