Centre for Rare Arts and Forgotten Trades acknowledges the Wadawurrung people as the Traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to all of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live and work on Wadawurrung Country. We acknowledge their unceded sovereignty over Wadawurrung Country, and the ongoing hardship and trauma as a result of colonisation. The history and continuous culture of the Wadawurrung people is an important part of our shared story.

WORKSHOP STYLE Unique, vibrant, intuitive.
ABOUT COLLEEN: Colleen Simmons an award-winning quiller and visual artist who works across many mediums including acrylics, inks, vinyl, wood, canvas, glass, crystals and paper.
WE SAY: Colleen takes the traditional decorative practice of quilling and applies it to her contemporary arts practice. She teaches quilling in hopes of inspiring others to take up the artform.

Quilling - Painting with Paper

Learn the ancient art form of quilling with Colleen Simmons! 

Quilling is the practice of creating a design using tightly coiled strips of paper. The origins of quilling are not recorded but it has been practiced 
around the world for centuries. The name is believed to come from wrapping paper around a feather, or quill, to create a coil. 

In this full-day workshop, you will learn to create different shapes using paper to complete a piece of art. 

At the end of the workshop, you will have two finished pieces and a quilling kit to take home with you.
