Introduction to Traditional Upholstery

About this workshop

Learn the basics of traditional upholstery with Stephen Ferguson!

In this full-day workshop, you will be introduced to tools, materials and methods used in upholstering wood-frame furniture. You will work in a small group with a maximum of 6 participants.

You will practice on a lift out seat frame, using all of the original natural fillings and coils. You will learn about preparing padding materials; stitching and securing them in place; measuring, fitting, cutting and securing the cover material; and finishing the final upholstered piece.

At the end of the workshop, you will have completed a properly sprung and padded upholstered seat suitable for a traditional dining chair. This course will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to approach your own beloved pieces at home.
