Introduction to Calligraphy
About this workshop
Learn to create beautifully classic hand lettering with calligrapher and letter carver, Greg Hanlon.
In this two-day workshop, you will be introduced to the tools, materials and techniques used in traditional calligraphy including the papers and inks used for hand lettering, how to lay out and prepare paper for drawing your text, and how to draw Copperplate and Italic letter styles using both a broad edge and pointed pen.
You will practice these styles and how to use them to create passages of classic hand lettering.
At the end of the workshop you will have the basic skills needed to confidently hand letter documents, signage, invitations – you name it! You will also take away your own pen and nibs and sample sheets to continue practicing at home.
